José de Maipo" Town
San José
de Maipo, the capital city of the commune, is 967 meters of
height over sea level; it is located at south west from Santiago.
It was founded by the Viceroy of Peru, Ambrosio O'Higgins
on July 16, 1792, the King ordered to build it as a base for
the workers exploiting the silver mine called San Pedro Nolasco.
During
our independence period, San José de Maipo was a come
and go passing for the Chilean patriots of the Liberation
Army which was being formed at Argentina.
Nowadays,
San José de Maipo is the center of several public services
for education and health, it is the hart of the zone, it has
a wide variety of businesses of several kinds.
It is
an ideal zone for people fond of sightseeing and hiking, taking
pictures, mountaineering, and fishing, it has all what's necessary
to make it a special area for resting and for pleasing the
