Dam
"Embalse del Yeso"
98 Km.
far from Santiago it is accessible through the route that
borders Yeso River and that detaches from the main highway
at the spot called "El Romeral". This dam is a great
reservoir to keep the water volume of Maipo River through
its affluent Yeso River, both join at "San Gabriel"
thus warranting the water supply for a great part of Santiago.
It has approximately 253 millions of cubic meters of water
and it is located at 3,000 meters above sea level. Its waters
have a deep turquoise color.
At the
river as well as at the dam it is possible to practice sportive
fishing of Arco iris trout, for that it is necessary to accomplish
a short and cheap formality before; to get the corresponding
fishing license at San José de Maipo County Hall or
at "Servicio Nacional de Pesca" (National Fishing
Office) at Santiago, this will avoid a forfeit and the equipment
and fished pieces confiscation. We recommend fulfilling this
formality at San José de Maipo, the attention is faster
here.
It is also
feasible to hire the services of some enterprise of adventure
tourism & expeditions to cross the dam to reach isolated
and lonely spots where the fauna is very trustful and lets a
very close approaching, the variety of flora is very wide, beautiful
and unique too.
