"El Volcán" Village
Going
up by the highway G-25, 80 km. far from Santiago and 65 km.
far from San José de Maipo, we reach to this village
which was created at the year 1874, it came to be as a result
of the development of crafty copper mining of the ores found
at this mountainous region.
It also
was the terminus of the military railroad which crossed this
canyon from "Puente Alto" to "El Volcán"
giving freight and passengers transport services when the
road was jus a path.
Once it
was a pushing and noisy village full of miners and activity,
now its main attractive is its quiet peace, being far away
from very populated urban centers offers a placid and relaxing
mountain country environment with enough comfort to have a
reviving rest. Its natural surroundings are suitable to experience
mountain sports, horse rides and hiking or simply strolling
around.
The name
of this village is taken from Volcán River at which
shore it is located, this river receives that name because
it is born at the volcano called "Volcán San José",
it is possible to go to the volcano with no risk by emotionating
waking or horse back expeditions.
