"El
Melocotón" Village
Distant
54 Km. from Santiago and 6 Km. from San José de Maipo,
this village called El Melocotón arose when a group
of cattle breeders needed to have a place with natural grazing
land where to feed the cattle they were bringing from the
high lands at the mountain range, nowadays it is a place with
beautiful houses and wonderful landscapes, it has many attractive
places among its hills where you can go for a stroll, hiking,
climbing, watching the geology, fauna and flora and it's the
departure point for excursions to Las Cucas or Coyanco creeks.
Here you
can find an enterprise of adventure tourism, which prepares
excursions; rafting, kayak and ducky trips by the river; horse
rides, expeditions and other activities.
We recommend
visiting the old train station, there has been set a locomotive
called "La Panchita" and a wagon from the military
railroad which ran from Puente Alto to El Volcán in
the good old days.
